Brian’s progress on the salt bike
We made it back from the salt Dry lakes racing Australia meeting 28th February 2016 to 4th March 2016 in Lake Gairdner, South Australia. It was very hot over there this year, Tuesday it was 41 Celsius under the quick shade and a whopping 48 Celsius on Wednesday after a short shower of rain.
We started with the Keihin FCR carb and fairing on and ran 116mph. We then put on the Mukini carb and ran 118mph. We changed tactics and ran with the fairing off and retarded the ignition timing—we ran 119mph—but decided to change jets and ran 121mph setting the record for the naked class.
So many changes and variations to try.
We also tried 6% nitro—revved 8000rpm. The bike did not respond well, and the piston had been damaged.
So we came home with a couple of records to do it all again next year.
Once we were home we pulled the engine down to discover the timing needs work.
So will keep working towards smashing records on the salt.
